Solo class project
A short 3D animation exploring the fusion of everyday realism with whimsical surprises. Modeled a detailed house environment in Cinema 4D, animated magical transitions in After Effects, and edited the final piece in Premiere Pro.

What needed solving
Blending photorealistic architectural environments with fantastical animated elements requires careful pacing — the magic should feel surprising but grounded in a believable world.
research & concept
The best magic hides in plain sight — wonder should emerge from the ordinary, not replace it.
- Studied short films that blend realism with surrealism — focusing on timing and reveal techniques.
- Researched isometric and architectural 3D styles for the house environment.
- Mapped a narrative arc: establish the ordinary → introduce the unexpected → resolve with wonder.
- Gathered reference for dusk lighting, warm interior glow, and suburban atmosphere.
production process
- Modeled and textured the house environment from scratch in Cinema 4D — architectural accuracy and atmospheric depth.
- Designed a glowing heart-shaped sculpture as the central magical element on the rooftop.
- Animated transitions and magical elements in After Effects with layered visual effects.
- Composited exterior lighting — warm interiors, dusk sky, driveway, and surrounding trees.
- Completed final editing and sound design in Adobe Premiere Pro.
creative strategy
Contrast is the engine — the more ordinary the setting, the more powerful the surprise.
- Built a realistic suburban house as the anchor so magical elements feel genuinely unexpected.
- Used warm interior lighting against cool dusk tones to create atmospheric depth.
- Placed the heart sculpture as a single bold focal point rather than scattering effects.
- Paced the animation to let the environment breathe before introducing wonder.
solution
- Fully modeled house environment with driveway, landscaping, and detailed interiors.
- Animated heart-shaped rooftop sculpture as the central magical reveal.
- Cohesive short animation with transitions, sound design, and atmospheric lighting.
